BRAHM, the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, is celebrating 15 years in the community! Commemorating a Milestone BRAHM, the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Museum at a special event on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. On October 1, 2011, BRAHM opened its doors to the community for the first time. Fifteen years later, the Museum invites everyone to come together to celebrate how far BRAHM has come, the community that made it possible, and the exciting possibilities of the next 15 years. The day will include a tour of the current exhibitions, fun art projects, food, and imagining the future of the now-beloved art museum. During the Community Day, BRAHM invites all guests to curate their own museum using pieces from the permanent collection. These selections, printed on collector’s cards, reflect a celebration of artists’ styles represented in BRAHM’s collection. At the end of the activity, BRAHM’s Curator of Exhibitions & Collections, Ian Gabriel Wilson-Rhodes, will select the winning “Honorary Curator.” Special Release Brew The Museum will also release a new 15th anniversary beer brewed in partnership with the Blowing Rock Brewing Company. The “Creative Common” is a smooth, easy-drinking common-style ale built on a rich malt background with a touch of rye spice, honey, and a hint of sweet corn flavor. This delicious beer is fermented with Scottish yeast for a clean, slightly fruity finish and will feature notes of caramel toasted malt and light chocolate to round out the malt profile, while Hallertau Mittelfruh brings soft, earthy hop notes. The Common Ale style of beer is America’s oldest original beer recipe and makes a delicious nod to history in BRAHM’s name. Exploring Creativity “Our creative community will be on full display during the event with a bluegrass duo led by award-winning multi-instrumentalists Meade Ritcher and Mark Schimick,” said Willard Watson III, BRAHM Programs & Outreach Director. Community Day is an opportunity for Museum patrons to explore their creative side as well. Patrons are invited to picture themselves in artwork from BRAHM’s collection with unique caricatures by artist Bobby Carter. There will also be an opportunity to envision the next 15 years of BRAHM with artist Walker Stutts as he translates guests’ aspirations into a live drawing. BRAHM will showcase the new visual identity for the public. This work has been done to celebrate where the Museum has come from, as well as to highlight its goals to continue to make Blowing Rock and Western North Carolina a welcoming, leading voice in the arts. BRAHM wishes to offer a tremendous thank you to the Museum’s members. It is through their generous support that BRAHM is able to fulfill its mission of keeping the Museum operating with free admission and bringing inspiring art to the High Country.
