Teach Like a Pirate with Dave Burgess

The Appalachian Community of Education Scholars (ACES) is sponsoring the Teach Like a Pirate event on Sept. 17, 2026 featuring author, Dave Burgess. Mr. Burgess will be doing an engaging presentation on elevating classroom instruction that is FREE for ACES students, other education majors, and locally based practicing teachers/administrators. Registration is required and must be completed on/before Sept. 3 to guarantee your spot at the presentation. The evening itinerary is as follows: Doors will open for guests at 4:30 p.m. to check in with ACES staff and grab a light dinner. From 5:00-8:00 p.m., Mr. Burgess will present highly-engaging teaching methods and strategies that educators can take back to their classrooms and implement into instruction immediately! Teach Like a Pirate books will be available for purchase after the presentation, and Mr. Burgess will host a book signing for participants from 8:00-8:45 p.m.Practicing teachers that attend the event will receive a CEU certificate via email post event.
